Delisa has been trained by
to teach the Food for Life Nutrition and Cooking Classes for cancer prevention and survival. The Cancer Project promotes cancer prevention and survival through a better understanding of cancer causes, particularly the link between nutrition and cancer. Research has shown that people who eat a diet free of animal products, high in plant foods, and low in fat have a much lower risk of developing cancer and a better chance of surviving if they have already been diagnosed with cancer.

Delisa is also authorized by
to teach the Diabetes Food for Life Nutrition and Cooking Classes for diabetes prevention or reversal.
Population studies and clinical research show the effectiveness of a low-fat, plant-based diet in:
- Improving blood glucose
- Promoting weight loss
- Reducing cholesterol
- Lowering the risk of common chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, and various cancers
A well-planned plant-based diet has many nutritional benefits and has been demonstrated to be as acceptable as the portion-controlled diet for diabetes management. A plant-based diet has also been endorsed by the American Dietetic Association and described as a safe choice in the 2009 American Diabetes Association's Standards of Care for Diabetes.
